Meet Kimmie Singh, RD 

Body Honor Nutrition Founder

Hi! I’m Kimmie -- an unapologetically fat woman of color who healed my relationship with food and body and developed a special passion for helping others do the same.

For a long time I felt stuck on the wrong side of life. I thought if only I could control how my body looked and ate in a “perfect” way, then the rest of my life would fall into place and also be “perfect.”

And every time I “failed” at dieting, I convinced myself that I just needed to be stricter and more rigid the next time. I felt like something was deeply wrong with me, and compared myself to everyone else who seemed like they could diet successfully.

But the reality was...

This exhausting cycle of trying to “fix” my body only exacerbated the worry and disconnection I felt, which eventually led to an eating disorder. 

And the worst part about that was…

I didn’t even realize I had one. Because I didn’t think people who looked like me could. I only associated eating disorders with thin, white teenagers.

But fortunately, through my recovery, I learned how to treat myself with less rigidity and more softness. I was able to unpack all the shame and trauma internalized from toxic beauty standards and societal stigmas.

And for the first time, I didn’t feel like I was stuck on the wrong side of life. I was right where I needed to be.

Credentials/Official Bio:

Kimmie Singh (she/her) is a fat, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist based in New York City. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Physics from St. John’s University, her Master of Science in Nutrition at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her Dietetic Internship from The City University of New York-Hunter College. Before starting her private practice, she worked as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at LK Nutrition, a weight-inclusive nutrition private practice based in New York City for two years. 

Kimmie served on the leadership board for the Association for Size Diversity and Health for three years and is a member of the International Federation of Eating Disorder Dietitians. Kimmie is a sought-after speaker that has spoken at conferences across the US about the harms of weight stigma, societal oppression in eating disorder treatment, and body positivity. She is also a consultant for the Health at Every Size® dietetic internship concentration at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Kimmie is also a contributor for The Center for Mindful Eating’s Certification Program and co-hosted the PCOS and Food Peace podcast with Julie Duffy Dillon, RD. Meet Ana Veloso, RD

Body Honor Nutrition Associate

Hello! My name is Ana Veloso (she/her). 

I grew up in a small town in Brazil, surrounded by my grandmother’s amazing cooking and baking. Needless to say, I was a plump, happy child. 

It wasn’t until my teens that diet culture found its way into my life. When I turned twelve, I began my first diet and exercise plan. I shedded weight, but was not healthy or happy. No matter how much weight I lost, it never seemed enough for myself, my family, or my physician. Disordered eating behaviors had ingrained themselves into my eating patterns and I descended into a decade-plus long period where I tried to pursue a body I could be happy with as my weight and self-esteem yo-yoed up and down. 

Throughout my teens and into my mid-twenties I believed that every time I gained the weight back it was because I wasn’t strong enough, good enough, not determined, and lazy. I allowed a number on a scale to determine how I felt about myself and my body. 

As I began my path in the field of dietetics I was lucky enough to stumble upon an NPR Life Kit podcast A Beginner’s Guide to Intuitive Eating as I was walking to work in Philadelphia one morning. That was the first time I had heard that someone could live without following a diet. The notion that I could be healthy and happy with my body without following a strict plan for what I should and shouldn’t eat was mind-blowing. 

As I delved deeper into what Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size meant, I realized that the endless pursuit of weight loss was doing more harm than helping, and by the time I finished my Masters in Human Nutrition at Drexel University, I was determined to practice both professionally and personally within an Intuitive Eating framework.

Ana Veloso (she/her) is a body positive, weight inclusive Registered Dietitian that practices from a Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating approach. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Biopsychology at The College of New Jersey in 2016. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Drexel University in 2020. Ana completed her Dietetic Internship with Sodexo in 2021 at Capital Health in Trenton, NJ and in Pennington, NJ.

During her graduate studies non-dieting approaches and weight-inclusive dietetic practices were not topics that were openly discussed. Ana began to hear about Intuitive Eating through other means, such as podcasts, and began to learn on her own. During her Dietetic Internship, Ana completed her capstone presentation on Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating and worked with Intuitive Eating Dietitians throughout her Leadership Concentration.
